I became a Personal Trainer to help people not have to be where I was and to learn from my mistakes because I know how much better life is with positive change.
Years of bad nutrition, binge drinking and not exercising were the choices I made that led to me being morbidly obese. 

I believe training can be fun, yep even for beginners. It should still be hard but if it is enjoyable or at least if some parts of our memory are of fun, laughter, being around other people enjoying exercise and getting closer to our goals together, then we are more likely to return for more and then of course more likely to succeed. 

I think one of the things I found the hardest with changing myself was not knowing what I actually needed to replace the things I no longer wanted in my life. So many times this meant I would just give up and go back to them. I like to help people to find more positive outlets in their lives in and out of the gym.
I like to explain the hows and whys of what we do in the gym to create a better understanding of how our bodies work so I am sharing a fishing pole and not just a fish. 

After listening to loads of awesome people in the gym I realised that it was not just the physical and nutritional side that people felt they needed help with which is why I became a certified hypnotherapist to assist with habit change, weight management and performance enhancement. 

One of my favourite things about the fitness industry is how much there is to learn.
Since I decided to change I have spent a lot of time learning and studying fitness and nutrition, I am currently completing my Diploma in Weight Management and right now I am actually finding it strange that I already want to know what I will be learning next. 

Outside of the gym, I enjoy hikes and climbing mountains – you are welcome to tag along for a hike and enjoy some amazing scenery (fair warning sometimes I sing).

Born and raised in Blacktown Western Sydney I’ve grown up in a working class family who helped me to build good values….. As a Blacktown boy I was always around sport and all forms of physicality…. although
as a ginger headed kid with ADHD I stood out like sore thumb at times so school wasn’t always easy…. it DID however open the door to combat sports/self defense where not only did I learn my own strengths and build my own power…. But I also grew to realize how much I loved coaching as I became a young man, I even managed to coach an entire fleet of little champion fighters and had no idea how much fulfillment it would give me.

Physical exercise and nutrition has been a part of my life for the last 10 years. As a kid I played football and when it got to a point where that was no longer the avenue for me, I knew I had to find something else to keep me active and moving. That’s where training came in and has been part of my life ever since.

I competed in an INBA Physique show in 2016 where I came second in my division and competed again two years later in 2018 in 3 INBA and ICN shows. That’s where I won three shows overall and got my pro card.

After achieving my goals in 2018, I wanted to turn my attention to some functional movements and incorporate that into my sessions alongside other training methods.

I’ve prepped people for their shows and also train your everyday client who just wants to keep their fitness and nutrition in check.

My fitness journey started around 12 years ago when I first joined a local gym back home in Cali, Colombia. Then, I began to workout in order to improve my physique and simply get stronger. This generic approach led me to believe that fitness was solely about the physical component, ‘the harder I work the more results I was going to get’. NOT TRUE!

This mindless strategy caused injuries, feelings of low confidence, self defeating thoughts, me to look for outside validation, self sabotage and so on. I was creating this character which was so far from who I was at my core.

Fast forward to now, I learned that we don’t go to the gym just to move weights, we go to the gym to mindfully contract our muscles against a resistance. We want to know what’s the most efficient and effective way to create powerful contractions in our unique body. We want to create a beautiful relationship with our body so that we get the most of our every single workout.

Until we understand the above we will keep doing unconscious generic workouts. Making the decision to train with purpose is not easy otherwise everybody would do it. It takes conscious awareness and a higher will to be ready to learn more about yourself and how to move with purpose.

I am passionate about exploring my body and discovering where I am not free so I can perform better in my workouts. Mobility and stability are my top 2 pillars to build strength. The only way to get better is by creating a plan, following the plan and constantly assessing where you are. If you bypass mobility and stability, it’s very likely you will encounter a variety of injuries in your fitness journey.

Today my 3 favourite training techniques are strength training, kettlebell training and KO8 training system. Each one is very unique and combining them can be very beneficial towards building a strong foundation.

I am a big believer that if the mind is not working right the body won’t work right. This is why I practice breathwork and meditation in my daily routine. For me creating alignment between my body, heart and mind is vital to function at my best every single day! and I encourage people to explore these practices.

Working together I will encourage you to find your real why, to create healthy habits/rituals that align with the person you want to become, to be grateful and to be aware of feelings or emotions that are not serving you anymore. WHY exercise? It’s simple, really. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain. My passion for gym and fitness comes from playing rugby league at different levels. I started training at home following a program from a rugby league academy until I eventually joined a gym. As my passion continues to grow so does my passion to help others achieve their personal goals.

Being exposed to the health outcomes that a sedentary lifestyle leads to made me question this approach to healthcare. I found myself wanting to do something more preventative, for me, that was Personal Training/Health Coaching.
My approach to training is centred around the individuality of my clients. My passion lies in helping you to achieve your goals and improve your health by tailoring the PT experience to you. I became a Personal Trainer to help people not have to be where I was and to learn from my mistakes because I know how much better life is with positive change.
Years of bad nutrition, binge drinking and not exercising were the choices I made that led to me being morbidly obese. 

I believe training can be fun, yep even for beginners. It should still be hard but if it is enjoyable or at least if some parts of our memory are of fun, laughter, being around other people enjoying exercise and getting closer to our goals together, then we are more likely to return for more and then of course more likely to succeed. 

I think one of the things I found the hardest with changing myself was not knowing what I actually needed to replace the things I no longer wanted in my life. So many times this meant I would just give up and go back to them. I like to help people to find more positive outlets in their lives in and out of the gym.
I like to explain the hows and whys of what we do in the gym to create a better understanding of how our bodies work so I am sharing a fishing pole and not just a fish. 

After listening to loads of awesome people in the gym I realised that it was not just the physical and nutritional side that people felt they needed help with which is why I became a certified hypnotherapist to assist with habit change, weight management and performance enhancement. 

One of my favourite things about the fitness industry is how much there is to learn.
Since I decided to change I have spent a lot of time learning and studying fitness and nutrition, I am currently completing my Diploma in Weight Management and right now I am actually finding it strange that I already want to know what I will be learning next. 

Outside of the gym, I enjoy hikes and climbing mountains – you are welcome to tag along for a hike and enjoy some amazing scenery (fair warning sometimes I sing).

Sergey Brazhnikov is an award-winning personal trainer and wellness educator, with a passion for human movement. He has worked in various roles within Les Mills including Gym Floor Manager at Les Mills Britomart and currently Personal Training Manager at Auckland City.

Born and raised in Blacktown Western Sydney I’ve grown up in a working class family who helped me to build good values….. As a Blacktown boy I was always around sport and all forms of physicality…. although
as a ginger headed kid with ADHD I stood out like sore thumb at times so school wasn’t always easy…. it DID however open the door to combat sports/self defense where not only did I learn my own strengths and build my own power…. But I also grew to realize how much I loved coaching as I became a young man, I even managed to coach an entire fleet of little champion fighters and had no idea how much fulfillment it would give me.
Getting into this industry was a decision that took me years to make as I knew how difficult it was to survive let alone thrive in it…. In spite of working various jobs after high school I think I always knew deep down that this career was the ONLY option for me…. The thirst to learn more about evolving the body never died and the itch to coach still never goes away for me… The outcome was always inevitable…..

Rhys came into the industry initially to improve his own sporting performance, having grown up training in martial arts. He competed nationally in karate, kick boxing and Muay Thai for over 10 years, before being forced to retire due to injury.
